Job Summary:
The Wildlife Disease Researcher will be responsible for conducting research and analysis on wildlife diseases within the field of wildlife conservation. They will play a key role in identifying, tracking, and addressing diseases that impact wildlife populations, with the aim of developing effective disease management and prevention strategies. The Wildlife Disease Researcher will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, veterinarians, and wildlife biologists to provide valuable insights into the transmission, impact, and mitigation of wildlife diseases.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Conduct research and analysis on wildlife diseases, including their prevalence, transmission, pathogenesis, and impact on wildlife populations.
2. Collect and analyze data from various sources, such as field surveys, laboratory tests, and relevant literature, to assess the health status and disease dynamics of wildlife populations.
3. Develop and implement disease surveillance programs to monitor the occurrence and spread of wildlife diseases.
4. Collaborate with a team of researchers and wildlife professionals to investigate disease outbreaks and develop appropriate response strategies.
5. Identify and evaluate potential risk factors for disease transmission, including environmental and anthropogenic factors.
6. Investigate the relationship between wildlife diseases and their impact on ecosystem health and biodiversity.
7. Develop and maintain databases and records of wildlife disease cases, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
8. Prepare and present research findings through scientific publications, reports, and presentations at conferences and meetings.
9. Provide technical expertise and guidance to wildlife conservation programs regarding disease management and prevention.
10. Stay updated with advancements in wildlife disease research and emerging infectious diseases that may impact wildlife populations.
11. Comply with all relevant ethical guidelines and regulations governing wildlife research and ensure the humane treatment of animals during research activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
1. Master's degree or Ph.D. in Wildlife Biology, Veterinary Sciences, Environmental Science, or a related field.
2. Proven experience in wildlife disease research, with a focus on wildlife populations and their health.
3. Strong knowledge of wildlife disease ecology, epidemiology, and wildlife conservation principles.
4. Proficiency in data collection, statistical analysis, and data management using specialized software and tools.
5. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets and draw meaningful conclusions.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
7. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, design experiments, and develop research protocols.
8. Experience in fieldwork and wildlife handling, with a strong understanding of animal welfare protocols.
9. Familiarity with the use of GIS and remote sensing tools for mapping and analyzing wildlife disease patterns.
10. Published research papers or scientific contributions in the field of wildlife disease research is preferred.
11. Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and guidelines related to wildlife management and research.
